One Hand Holds the Future.
A little mystery, if you’d like? Mysteries can be pretty amazing when they are mysteries revealed by God. Only one hand holds the future in regard to planet earth. And through His revelation to His prophets, written down long ago, we can peer into the future where mysteries are plain to see. God will always have His hidden and unknowable secrets, but His Scriptures are filled with information. Things that we would never know by any other means. Let me give you an example.
Ezekiel wrote about dry bones coming to life as God called breath from the four winds. They rose up and stood as a great army. God then gives the meaning of this mysterious illustration. This is the whole house of Israel who long ago were cut off from God and scattered throughout the nations. God calls them dead, but promises that He will call them from their graves and bring them back to the land of Israel. When that happens God will put His Spirit in them. (Ezekiel 37:1-14 Let us turn from a mystery to history to help us understand.
Understanding the future.
The only way you can come to understand the future is by starting at the beginning. There will be a lot you don’t understand, but in time the pieces of the puzzle will come together. Questions will find their answers. There is just one requirement. You have to believe every promise God makes no matter how impossible it may seem. If you don’t accept them as promises already accomplished in the mind of God you will then read your own ideas into God’s words. Enough. Back to Ezekiel.
A long time ago the nation Israel was divided into two kingdoms. The southern kingdom was called Judah. The northern kingdom was called Israel and referred to as Ephraim. After a little over two hundred years of idolatry God finally had enough of the house of Israel and sent a nation to conquer them. Defeated Israelites of the northern tribes were literally removed from the land which was then repopulated by their conquerors. That occurred twenty seven hundred years ago. Divorced, dead to God and scattered they lost their identity by assimilation into the nations. These are the ones God promises to resurrect by putting His Spirit in them and bringing them back to the land of Israel. This great army has yet to return, but God has promised.
One Hand Holds Them Both.
For clarity regarding these lost peoples God continues with another illustration. Ezekiel was told to take two sticks and write on them. The first, “For Judah and for the children of Israel, his companions.” The second stick received the words. “For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim and for all the house of Israel, his companions.” Two sticks, two nations. One that is now and one that is not yet.
“Thus says the Lord God: Surely I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel, his companions; and I will join them with the stick of Judah , and make them one stick, and they will be one in my hand.” He will gather Israel from the nations, wherever they have gone. The children of Israel will never be divided again. There will be one kingdom under one King. No longer will they defile themselves with idols or transgressions. “Then they shall come to be my people , and I will be their God.” (Ezekiel 37:15-28)
That seemingly impossible future, for those who don’t even know who they are, is only seen through the eyes of faith. It is a mystery revealed to those who believe God is faithful to His word. That is the key to understanding the mysteries of God.
