Appeasement: Fake Peace.
Appeasement is an affront to God through an act coerced by Satan. When we appease men we are submitting to the powers of this world for the sake of peace. “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s enemies will be members of his household.” (Matthew 10: 34-36)
Coerced by fear, voices are silenced, they didn’t think they were bargaining for war. Listen Up! Surrender is not an option. God’s children have been given our Father’s assurance through Christ’s words. “These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33) Our peace is not to be found through appeasement. Surrendering, through our silence, to the thoughts and ways of this world, is not the choice of those who have been called out . They are meant to experience true peace which belongs to the victor.
Joy and Appeasement Live in Different Worlds.
Forget about joy when, in fear, we bottle up God’s thoughts and ways. They are meant to be seen and heard. “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher that your ways And my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9)
How amazing are the lives of the first saints of Christ’s church. They believed His words and received His Spirit who gave them boldness to proclaim the message of the kingdom. Jesus is God’s Son who died because of our sin and lives to give forgiveness to the repentant. When we appease the sensitivities of the world regarding sin we restrict the work of God’s Spirit in us. Hear these words of our Lord.
“But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you, but if I go, I will send Him to you. And He, when He comes, will convict the world of sin and righteousness and judgment; concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; and concerning righteousness, because I go to the father and you no longer see me; and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged. (John 16:7-11)
The Spirit of the Lord will move in your life when you believe.
It is God’s Spirit in His children that accomplishes this work of “conviction.” When we accept reality revealed in Scripture, and resist the enemy who would silence us, God’s will is done. “So will my word be which goes forth from my mouth; it will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11) Let God accomplish His will in the lives of others as you resist the temptation to appease this world. You will discover much more than personal satisfaction when, through you, His words are heard and received. To be used by God in the redemption of the lost is to share in His heavenly joy.
Remember that Jesus didn’t come to condemn, but to save. “He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the Name of the only begotten Son of God.” (John 3:18) Trust His Spirit to do His work in you as you simply live by and tell the truth. Appeasement is an affront to God to the detriment of men.
