Lazarus, come forth!
Jesus raised a man from the dead, yet men still doubt God’s resurrection power will accomplish everything that is written. Believers know better because of what His power has accomplished in our own lives. We can witness the awesome power of God as experienced by the prophet Ezekiel. He was carried away in the Spirit of the Lord to a valley full of very dry bones. “And He said to me, ‘Son of man, can these dry bones live?’ And I answered, O LORD, you know.”
Ezekiel was then told to be a prophet to bones. “Then the LORD said to me, ‘Prophecy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD! This is what the Sovereign LORD says to these bones: ‘Behold, I will cause breath to enter in to you and you shall live. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the LORD.” (Ezekiel 37:3-6)
“So I prophesied as He commanded me, and breath entered them; and they came to life and stood up on their feet …. a vast army.” (Ezekiel 37:10) Well, we may only be a second-hand witness to this vision, but we believe it happened for a reason. God then explains.
“He then says to me: ‘Son of man, these dry bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’ Therefore prophecy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. Then you, My people, will know that I am the LORD, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. I will put My Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the LORD have spoken, and I have done it, declares the LORD'” (Ezekiel 37:11-14)
God is speaking to His people who are without hope and cut off from His presence. Their spirits, which now dwell in darkness, will see the light of Christ. His people, Israel, will be born of the Holy Spirit and live in the land promised to Abraham. At that time they will realize that the Lord’s words have been accomplished as He promised.
Because we have received His Spirit we know that it will happen as the Lord declared. Praise God, we have been called from the darkness of the grave into the light of Christ.
