We have it pretty easy.
Ever compare yourself to Israel? They really had it tough. All those laws and rules. This is what God commanded them to do. “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD; and you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength.” That’s got to be tough when you have a heart of stone and are without the Holy Spirit to help you.
God has made it pretty easy for us. They had to know all of the commandments, teach them to their children, talk about them wherever they went and whatever they were doing. They wore a kind of bracelet to remind them throughout the day. God’s word was written on their doorposts and gates for all to see. We have it easy, we just need to remember to love.
“I will put My law within them, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” (Jeremiah 31:33) We all know that He is, because He has forgiven us and does not remember our sin. We are called to be one of His children. For us, God is on the inside declaring the way that we should be. To love each other, to love the truth and to love the one who saved us shouldn’t be so hard to do.
We declare God’s glory.
Or at least we should. Look at what our Father has done. The weight of His Holy Law has been removed from our shoulders while the Spirit of His Holy Ways has been placed in our hearts. No longer do we carry an unbearable burden. No longer do we dread the consequences of the fall. The angels cried out, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased!” (Luke 2:14) Let’s do the same.
