Histories

 For looking back.

Our history can be quite instructive when looking back at how we use to be. Our certainties became less as we saw ourselves through God’s eyes. The pride of life is exposed in God’s light. Humbled in His presence, and cleansed by Christ’s blood, we move forward creating more history. A better story than the last.

I have often thought of our life in Christ as a story that He is writing for His Father. No matter how the story begins it ends in glory because Jesus is the one writing it. His will is written on our minds and in our hearts. Looking back we can see that is what God has been doing.  There is a place in our story where Jesus calls us His friend.

Looking ahead.

I have a favorite verse or two in lots of different chapters. This one does a wonderful job of explaining what a blessing is. Peter was preaching to the Jews.

“You are the descendants of the prophesy and of the covenant that God gave to your ancestors, saying to Abraham ‘And in your descendants all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ When God raised up a servant, He sent Him first to you, to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.” (Acts 3:25-26)

The blessing is being turned away from sin. I told you our story gets better, and with Jesus it never ends.
