His Name’s Sake

Every word will be fulfilled.

God is not like us, He cannot lie. Our Father’s enemy is the liar. Throughout the ages Satan has tried to prevent God’s word from coming true. Think of Moses and the children the Egyptians killed. The enemy tried to prevent God from keeping His word to Abraham. No need to explain the Holocaust, another attempt and failure. The Jews returned to the land as promised. Our God and Father has “exalted His word above His name.” (Psalm 138:2)

For His name’s sake.

God will accomplish all that is written. It is a joy to read the prophets and watch God’s word come to pass. Prophecy does more than declare acts, it also gives God’s reasons for them.  Take the Jews for instance. “When they came to the nations where they went, they profaned My holy name, because it was said of them, ‘These are the people of the LORD; yet they have come out of His land.’ But I had compassion for My holy name, which the house of Israel profaned among the nations where they went. (Ezekiel 36:20-21) Let us just say, “The Jews have not represented a holy God.”

“Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the LORD GOD, “It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for My holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you went. I will vindicate the holiness of My great name which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned in their midst. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD,” declares the LORD GOD, “when I prove Myself holy among you in their sight.” (Ezekiel 36:22-23)

Wow! Centuries profaning God’s holy name and He is still going to save His people Israel. Jeremiah records the words Israel will pray during the time of Jacob’s trouble. In part: “We know our wickedness, O LORD, The iniquity of our fathers, for we have sinned against You. Do not despise us, for Your own name’s sake; Do not disgrace the throne of your glory; Remember and do not annul Your covenant with us.”  (Jeremiah 14:20-21) We too can trust that God will not disgrace the throne of His glory by failing to keep His word.

“I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven  you for His name’s sake.” (1 John 2:12)
