The truth of the matter.
“If Christ is in you…..” (Romans 8:10) “We are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh – for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God.” (Romans 8:12-14)
We have been given the right/authority to become the children of God. (John 1:12) This right comes with the responsibility to follow the Spirit of God. That requires us to daily contend with, and put to death, our pride, lusts and selfishness. To be a disciple of Christ is a life of sacrifice. “Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.” (Luke 14:27)
To be a disciple is to be teachable. Humility and obedience are essential. We cannot cling to attitudes and behaviors that are contrary to our Father’s will if we are following Christ. Thank God for His patience as we grow into Christ’s likeness, according to the will of our Father.
Jesus’ commandments are to love God and our neighbor. Love is demonstrated through sacrifice. It is giving up one thing for another. Trash for treasure. “My son, keep my words and treasure my commandments within you.” (Proverbs 7:1)
“The work of the heart is this: To love God and to love others. Love that comes from the heart must respond with the hands. This is a natural response to the miracle God has worked in our hearts.” (posted on the prayer room wall in the “Jerusalem House of Prayer”)
Father, we praise You for Your wisdom that accomplishes Your purpose in each of us. Thank you for Your love and patience that gives us hope that we will rise to Your high calling of holiness. A life that overflows with love.
