Keeping Christ’s Commandments

Are there only two commandments?

“If you love Me you will keep My commandments.” (John 14-15)

We know that if we love God with all our heart, soul and mind, and love our neighbor as ourselves we are obedient to the Law of God. (Matthew 22:37-40) But did you know that there are check lists to see how well we are doing? I’m serious. Other Christians have taken the time to identify between 50 to 60 other commands of Jesus found in the gospels? Some seem to be extremely similar bordering on redundancy, but I discovered one list that seems straightforward and useful.

Consider these words more than just good advice. They are commands that came from our Lord, the Son of God, who said, “If you keep My commandments you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.” (John 125:10)

Thank You, Father, for Your Spirit who guards and guides our heart and soul and mind as we mature as Your children. You have eternally secured us through faith in Jesus, a gift of Your grace. Thank You.

“My son, keep my words and treasure my commandments within you.” (Proverbs 7:1)
