Born into a sinful world

That’s the reason we must be born again.

“Behold, I was brought forth in inequity, and in sin my mother conceived me.” (Psalm 51:5)

Strong words regarding the birth of this man and the condition of his mother. Truth does not respect the sensitivities of those opposed to hearing it. They will run back into the darkness, but those who stop to consider God’s words are enlightened.

We are born into a sinful world and inherit the cause from our parents, a rebellious nature. Go back in your family as far as stories and memories will take you. Abuse, addiction, tempers, unfaithfulnes,  thefts, lusts, abandonment, neglect, deceit, partiality, fear, depression and hopelessness have found their dwelling places in our family trees. Children are truly brought forth in inequity. They are victims of the human condition, sin. Both their own and the sin of others.

It is not that we are “born this way”, we are born INTO A WAY. Sometimes the way is modeled as an accepted way, some times it is a way chosen by default.  “Everybody does it, it’s just a white lie, what was taken hardly matters, it’s not like I murdered somebody! Have a drink, keep me company.” Family misleads with their own excused behaviors.  Or worse still, those enslaved seek to entice and further corrupt the souls of others.

“These people are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. For the mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of the flesh, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity – for ‘people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.'” (2 Peter 2:17-19)

We were born into “the way of sin.” Damaged and shaped by evil words and deeds, we came to excuse and justify depravity when held by its firm grip. Ironically, taking no responsibility upon ourselves or others, God is blamed for our condition. “I was born this way.”

It does not matter what it is that enslaves a man or woman. Jesus came to heal the broken hearted and set the captive free. What matters is a desire for truth in our innermost being.

Father, we have all been infected and affected by sin. To break its curse Jesus died for those who would believe. Thank You.

“To the Jews who had believed Him, Jesus said, If you hold to my teaching, you are really My disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)
