The Christmas Story pg.2

That was a shock!

“There were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened.” (Luke 2:9)

Imagine an angel of the Lord appearing in front of you and the indescribable glory of the Lord shinning around you. Suddenly, outside at night. I imagine they were petrified, frozen in fear. Drained of any capacity and in a state of shock when the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there was born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:10-11)

These Shepherds heard the best news. God’s promised Messiah, their Savior was born. For four-hundred years God had been silent. Generations had passed without hearing Him speak through a prophet. Suddenly He came, and now He will speak through His Son. The shepherds were instructed how to find Him. Now it seems He is the One who finds us.

“And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of heavenly host praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.'” (Luke 2:13-14)

Now that is great Christmas news. There is peace among men who please God. The key to pleasing God? FAITH! “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6)

Peace: Faith’s reward given by Christ.
