Check List

for those wanting to get it right.

“So that you may be the sons (and daughters) of your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:45)

I have developed this list over the last 41 years. I was 33 years old before I cared about having a list. At 74, I have the perfect checklist to give as my birthday gift to you. Do not receive it lightly or think it of little value. I spent many years working it out with fear and trembling, I wanted to get it right.

At first it seemed there was so much to do if I wanted to be a good son. Jesus said a lot. And so did John and Peter and James and Paul. Especially Paul. To make this list I needed wisdom and you know how wisdom begins! “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:10)

I read and read God’s word so that I might have this understanding. There had to be more to wisdom than fear. I discovered it to be love, and my check list not so scary after all. Good thing too. Our Father is calling for perfection. “Therefore you shall be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” (Matthew 5:48)

The Check List.

  1. Do not resist the evil person who would demand your time or possessions. (Does filing your taxes come to mind?)
  2.  Love your enemy and pray for them. (Lots of politicians and their supporters in need of love and prayer.)
  3.  Be good to all and you will be perfect. (We all have work to do, wouldn’t you agree?) That’s it. Love like crazy.
