Speaking to a Rock.
A hyena walked by a big rock every morning on its way to get water. “Good morning, Big Rock,” said Mrs. Hyena. Big Rock never said a word, but Mrs. Hyena never gave up on Big Rock. One day she said, “You may not be speaking, but I know you hear me.” That’s why I continue posting on Facebook.
Different friends from time to time indicate they’ve heard, brothers and sisters in Christ, but most are silent. There are many things to occupy our time on-line. Sports and cars, babies and bars, cats, dogs and horses. There is also plenty of opportunity to hate, mock and ridicule. (Not without good reason, but we are called to love.) Among the funny and the gross, family pictures also appear revealing joy and grief. All receive notable attention that seems to amplify the silence on my page.
I’m sharing my beliefs acquired from the word of God, and pretty sure many FB “friends” blocked me long ago. The ones still listening are my silent rock. Do they not acknowledge out of fear? “What will others think?” “I’ll be judged!” Perhaps they have yet to learn what Jesus thinks when men are ashamed of Him. “Whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father and the holy angels.” (Luke 9:26)
Or maybe it is only a matter of time before His “perfect love casts out all fear.” (1 John 4:18) A time spent learning that God’s word can be relied upon. His love is real. After that will come the shout-outs full of God’s praises. It can’t be helped once you know how much you’re loved. And because you believe every word that He spoke is true, your fear is now for others. You will be praying that they’re listening.
Or maybe lots of other things have kept the readers silent. It doesn’t really matter that I know the cause. I get to share God’s words spoken long ago. And there is satisfaction in knowing those who know God are listening. A lot of stuff begins to make sense when listening to apostle John. “We are from God; he who knows God listens to us; he who is not from God does not listen to us.” (1 John 4:6)
I pray that each of us lift our voices so those called by God can hear the good news. “….It is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes….” (Romans 1:16) How can we be silent when we believe, belief in Jesus is the only way a person can be saved? His truth has opened our eyes. Truly, it is a matter of life or death. How can we be silent? I know you’re listening.
