Morality

Who decides?

In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” (Judges 21:25)

Right or wrong, good or evil, moral or immoral …. who makes the rules if there is no king? Who decides what is acceptable or not without a Sovereign God? Laws are made because man can be a beast if unrestrained, but most behavior is self-regulated when lacking the principles of God.

The Bible contains God’s judgements regarding rules of conduct. According to His judgements man’s behavior, his choices of conduct, have consequences. Both good and bad. So much bad can be avoided and blessings received if we submit to His judgements. Often and easily we do what is right in our own eyes, then wonder how we got into a “not fun” predicament. All I have to say about that is, “Dah!” How much independence must we exercise before realizing God knows what is best.

We live with those who are deceived, blinded by Satan through their own lusts. They call good evil, and evil good enticing others away. In doing so they have lifted up their morality (political correctness) higher than the word of God.  And when I think that their spirit of lawlessness is now being held back, I can’t help but wonder how bad things will get.

“For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of His mouth and destroy by the splendor of His coming.” (2 Thessalonians 2:7-8)

Father, draw us closer to the King. In His name we pray.
