His Yoke

The truth is, it has not been easy.

I’m sure you can say the same thing even though Jesus said, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”  (Matthew 11:28-30) Some of us are slow to learn and struggle longer than others.

We forget that we came to Him to take His yoke. Without thinking, we try to carry life’s burdens alone. As we grow in grace, concerns for others weigh us down with a dreadful sense of responsibility. So we labor to fix it, whatever “it” is, and more often than not we feel the weight of our failure. But when we remember who’s in control, through trust, we enter His rest.

When we forget who’s yoke we wear the enemy would pull us away to despair. Simply the results of thinking it was all up to us. After awhile humility sets in, and with it a greater sensitivity to His guiding touch. We took His yoke upon us because life was awfully hard, and He said He would give us rest. Our soul would find rest.

“For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard. For we who have believed enter that rest,…” (Hebrews 4:2-3)
“For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His.”  (Hebrews 4:10)

Just a reminder. We all struggle from time to time when we forget whose yoke we wear.
