Contemplating “Respect”

And substituting this word for “fear.”

Most Christian’s default setting, when reading or hearing the word’s “fear the Lord,” is “respect and honor.” Ok. Respecting sensibilities for a moment or two let’s say, “Respect is the beginning of wisdom.”

Respect is more than duty. It is a feeling of deep admiration of God’s abilities, qualities and achievements.  Respect is the mind and heart acknowledging and acting upon God’s worthiness to be loved, honored, obeyed, praised and worshiped. Perhaps respect is the fruit of wisdom and fear is the seed.

“Am I a God who is near,’ declares the Lord, ‘and not a God far off?
Can a man hide himself in hiding places so I do not see him?’ declares the Lord.
‘Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?’ declares the Lord.” (Jeremiah 23:23-24)

There is an OTHERNESS about God. His children will never become dulled to their Father’s awesomeness.
