Twin Subjects, the Gospel & Faith #2

I hope no one placed limitations on God and the power of His gospel message. God once asked a prophet, “Can these bones live?” The prophet answered, “O Lord, You Know.” (Ezekiel 37:3) He is God Almighty who raises the dead, He spoke to Lazarus didn’t He? Lazarus was commanded. “Lazarus, come forth.” (John 11:43) The gospel of God’s Son is an invitation.  “Go therefore to the main highways, and as many as you find there, invite to the wedding feast.” (Matthew 22:9)

As many as are found will be invited, but not all will come. “For the heart of this people has become dull, With their ears they scarcely hear, And they have closed their eyes, Otherwise they would see with their eyes, Hear with their ears, And understand with their heart and return, And I would heal them.” (Matthew 13:15; John 12:40; Acts 28:27)

That’s scary. Why would anyone close their eyes to the truth by rejecting the light of the gospel?  “And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”  (2 Corinthians 4:3-4) How does Satan blind the mind of unbelievers?

He blinds their minds with a love for evil. “This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.” (John 3:19-20)

The gospel is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. (Romans 1:16) It is clear why some do not believe. The love of evil! All have been exposed to the knowledge of evil, so why do some hear and believe the gospel?  This question brings us to the subject of faith.

What does it mean that Jesus is “the author and perfecter of faith?” (Hebrew 12:2)
