Twin Subjects: The Gospel and Faith #11

The Messenger

Why did God send Him? Is there a simple answer? Maybe, but it would not be the only answer. One thing is for sure, He didn’t come to judge us like He did to Israel so many times in the past.  “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.” (John 3:17)

He came as a savior. Not as an enforcer of God’s justice. God’s law said to stone her and the self-righteous were ready to obey.  Straightening up, Jesus said to her, “Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?”  She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on sin no more.” (John 8:10-11) Jesus forgave her, for it was in His power to forgive. He knew how God’s Law would be satisfied. She was one of the first to receive God’s grace.

His message to her was “sin no more.” Now some would plug their ears to keep from hearing this. Those with faith in the Messenger pay attention to His words, they are changed through the hearing of truth. None can boast that they have arrived, but all with faith know that they will. Someday …..  “Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is. (1 John 3:2)
