Twin Subjects: The Gospel and Faith #13

The Gospel of God calls for the obedience of faith. Born of God, He is now our Father and in our Father’s kingdom there are Laws. Part of God’s message was to teach their holy meanings. Have you read the Sermon on the Mount? (Matthew chapters 5-7)  It’s all about holy behavior, persecution and rewards. There are other portions of the gospel that explain the Father’s discipline when He is not obeyed.

“You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood in your striving against sin; and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons,
“My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, Nor faint when you are reproved by Him;
For those whom the Lord loves He disciplines,
And He scourges every son whom He receives.” (Hebrews 12:4-6 NASB)

Our obedience is because we are saved, and have a Father who corrects us when we sin. “For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? (1Peter 4:17) Because of our faith in the gospel we experience God’s judgement now, as sons and daughters of the kingdom.

This is reality. Best to accept the truth of God’s message, and not ignore it. Perhaps then it will be easy to always rejoice “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4 NASB)
