Twin Subjects: The Gospel and Faith #17

Don’t forget your part.

Believe in His name, it means Savior. Believe what He said, and do your part. We were given the right to become children of God. Like Adam and Eve we are capable of choice. To do His will, like Jesus did, necessitates our death. But then we will live in Him, doing the will of the Father.

“Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.” (Ephesians 5:1-2 NASB)

How good are you at imitating? Copying the One your faith has seen, Jesus. Seems only right that we should love as we have been loved. There is no denying we have a part to play, and it requires our dying. But we get to follow our God knowing and doing His will. That is how we know that we are the children of Abraham. There is a song taught to children, “Father Abraham had many sons, many sons had father Abraham. I am one of them and so are you, so let’s just praise the Lord.”
“They answered and said to Him, ‘Abraham is our father.’ Jesus said to them, ‘If you are Abraham’s children, do the deeds of Abraham.'” (John 8:39 NASB) The deeds of Abraham were deeds of faith. The thing he was willing to do was only because he believed that God would keep His word. Come to thing of it, from start to finnish, love is sacrificial, and that requires faith for us to do our part following Christ.
