Purified
The reason behind the reasons, that we may think of, there is this bottom line truth. “…. our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds. (Titus 2:13-14 NASB)
Redeem, purify and possess a people just like God the Father intends for the children of Israel. Only this time His work is accomplished through grace and not the demands of the law. This is an amazing truth, Christians are those who are the possessions of Jesus, we are His people. We have been redeem, set free from the curse of the Law. No longer are we threated with death. Jesus took care of that.
So here we stand, possessed by God, and zealous for good deeds. Surely we will fail from time to time, in deed and thought, but we keep getting better. He is the one doing the purifying. I suppose there are some who would think God is too demanding, and that they will suffer loss, some lawless deed. Nothing can be done about that, “But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.” (John 3:21NASB)
All that is needed is a heart willing to practice truth. The results will be God’s doing, He is “purifying for Himself a people.” To be Christ’s possession is an intimate relationship. We get to be as He would be, it just takes practice. “He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8 NASB) This is to be like Jesus.
Into the highways and byways with this good news in 2020. The world will need it.
