Cleansed from all Unrighteousness

Scriptures warn while there is time.

Somethings make me stop and wonder, like this story of a man in hell who wanted to warn his brothers. God had already sent His best to warn the rest, and they recorded His word. Moses and the prophets still speak today.

“And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, that you send him to my father’s house— for I have five brothers—in order that he may warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.” (Luke 16:27-29 NASB)

This man in hell didn’t think God’s word was enough for his brothers to believe.  He wanted God to do something that would cause his brothers to repent of their ways. “But he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!’ But he said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.'” (Luke 16:30-31 NASB)

Well, God did something! Jesus fulfilled the prophecies regarding God’s Suffering Messiah, died and was raised from the dead. His disciples wrote down the topic of His first sermons.

“Now after John had been taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.'” (Mark 1:14-16 NASB)

Jesus lives and reigns in the hearts of those who hear Him. Speaking of which, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” (Romans 10:17 NASB) Christ’s words give us understanding which strengthens and prepares us for the trials that purify our faith in God. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1John 1:9 NASB)
