DEO NON FORTUNA
“From God, not from chance.” The circumstances of our lives are not determined by chance or luck, whatever that may mean. God chose where our soul would go. He sovereignly picked the place of our birth. To be born into poverty does not automatically mean God chose you to be rich in faith. Being born into wealth is not necessarily a disqualifier. The ones God chooses to be rich in faith are the poor in spirit.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3NASB)
Humility is right thinking about God and yourself. As long as we’re heavy on “self,” by thinking “I’m in control! I’ve got my life and this ‘knowledge of good and evil’ thing under control.” When that is the case, we have a lot to learn about humility. It is only by His Spirit, and not our natural abilities, that we have the wisdom and understanding to choose rightly. They also grant the strength of conviction, the certainty of outcome. Faith. Humility trusts God’s will expressed through His word. That’s kingdom living!
“Happy are those whom you choose and bring near
to live in your courts.
We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house,
your holy temple.” (Psalm 65:4 NRSV)
