I asked for truth wherever it leads. When it comes to weighty matters why seek the opinions of ordinary men when Christ’s apostles are there to teach us? Paul just told believers when there will be this prophesied retribution and relief from persecution and affliction. It will happen “On That Day” when Jesus glorifies Himself in His saints. That will be the day when Jesus is revealed from heaven with flaming fire and mighty angles. (2 Thessalonians 1:3-10)
“Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.” (2 Thessalonians 2:1-2 NASB)
They did not miss “That Day” when Jesus would come and glorify Himself in His saints.
“Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.” (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 NASB)
The meaning of the Greek word “apostasia” is to forsake your religion, Laws or customs. It is used twice in the New Testament transliterated as apostasy, falling away or departure. The only other time it is used is when Paul was accused of “teaching all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children nor to walk according to the customs.” (Acts 21:21 NASB)
Those exposed to Christianity are hearing this word interpreted to mean departure as in “the rapture of the church.” Here is my great concern. In Pakistan the Corona Virus has caused the economy to collapse. Families are starving, children are being murdered by parents rather than hearing them cry. Food is offered in exchange for forsaking Christianity and converting to Islam. Faith is being refined in the fire and the dross is falling away. Apostasia!
