Marching Orders
“When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me. And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.” (John 15:26-27 NASB)
That was Jesus telling His disciples what was going to happen when the Holy Spirit comes. The Spirit of truth will bare witness to Jesus, and they must also bare witness to Jesus. That’s it!
There was a good reason they “must testify.” The disciples were chosen to witness the ministry of the Son of God. If we believe their witness to Jesus, we become witnesses to Jesus in our own lives. His presence changes us.
Sanctified In Truth
When the word of God is avoided, Jesus Himself is avoided. Jesus, the One who prayed that we may be one. This prayer was heard and is fulfilled in those who abide in God’s word. They too become witnesses to the Father sending His Son. The reason for all this witnessing? So that the world might believe.
“I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.” (John 17:19-21 NASB)
