God is making it obvious.
Minds hardened by sin (thoughts/behaviors that are evil) cannot see God’s revelation. That is true for the Jew and true for the Gentile. All effort is futile and hopelessly fatal if it were not for God sending His Son. Sadly, most do not turn to Him and remain blind. The state of our world and nation is the result of fallen humans rejecting God’s Son. Those who can see know where this condition is leading. We can understand what we read!
“But their minds were hardened; for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remains unlifted, because it is removed in Christ. But to this day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their hearts; but whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.” (2 Corinthians 3:14-16 NASB)
Just like Israel, who demanded a king, God will give us a Saul. Our hope is not found in man, nor can we still God’s hand. Our job is make Christ known as we are being transformed.
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. But we all, with unveiled faces, looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians 3:17-18 NASB)
