The TRUTH will set you free.
Without the truth you would not know that you were, or still are, a prisoner. Ruled by the god of this world through your flesh and your fallen nature. The chains begin to break when we hear the truth, God’s message of salvation. My chains were not broken all at once. Truth must be believed in order to set free. It took me a long time to understand the truth. God means exactly what He says. If we believe that this is true, God’s word changes you. Faith in His word sets our spirit free to become Christ’s disciple.
“So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, ‘If you continue in My word, then you are truly My disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’ They answered Him, ‘We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been enslaved to anyone; how is it that You say, ‘You will become free’?” (John 8:31-33 NASB)
These Jews believed Jesus, but pride prevented them from understanding. That was my problem. Thank God for His grace that teaches slow learners. God means what He says.
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
Because the Lord anointed me
To bring GOOD NEWS TO THE HUMBLE;
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
To proclaim release to captives
And freedom to prisoners; (Isaiah 61:1 NASB)
