Ezekiel’s vision of a field full of dried bones coming to life is God illustrating the house of Israel future. The northern tribes of Israel were divorced and dispersed because of their adulteries. The tribes belonging to the house of Israel are now commonly referred to as the Lost Tribes. You may recall the story of Ethiopians whom the nation of Israel received as Jews. They call themselves Beta Israel and believe they are the descendants of the tribe of Dan scattered by God long ago. What of the other tribes? Is the house of Israel the other sheep Jesus mentioned?
“And I have other sheep that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will listen to My voice; and they will become one flock, with one shepherd.” (John 10:16 NASB) Christendom has long claimed to be those lost sheep, but I wonder. God’s illustrative prophecies better explain the “lost sheep” being the miraculous return of His dispersed and their rejoining the house of Judah becoming one flock under one shepherd.
“Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the entire house of Israel; behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope has perished. We are completely cut off.’ Therefore, prophesy and say to them, ‘This is what the Lord God says: “Behold, I am going to open your graves and cause you to come up out of your graves, My people; and I will bring you into the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord, when I have opened your graves and caused you to come up out of your graves, My people. And I will put My Spirit within you, and you will come to life, and I will place you on your own land. Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken and done it,” declares the Lord.'” (Ezekiel 37:11-14 NASB)
“And say to them, ‘This is what the Lord God says: “Behold, I am going to take the sons of Israel from among the nations where they have gone, and I will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land; and I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and one king will be king for all of them; and they will no longer be two nations, and no longer be divided into two kingdoms. They will no longer defile themselves with their idols, or with their detestable things, or with any of their offenses; but I will rescue them from all their dwelling places in which they have sinned and will cleanse them. And they will be My people, and I will be their God.” (Ezekiel 37:21-23 NASB)
“But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture becomes a matter of someone’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.” (2 Peter 1:19-20 NASB)
