Comforting Words #9

The Spirit of truth

“When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, namely, the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, He will testify about Me, and you are testifying as well, because you have been with Me from the beginning.” (John 15:26-27 NASB)

“These things I have spoken to you so that you will not be led into sin (fall away). They will ban you from the synagogue, yet an hour is coming for everyone who kills you to think that he is offering a service to God. These things they will do because they have not known the Father nor Me. But these things I have spoken to you, so that when their hour comes, you may remember that I told you of them. However, I did not say these things to you at the beginning, because I was with you.

But now I am going to Him who sent Me; and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ But because I have said these things to you, grief has filled your heart. But I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I am leaving; for if I do not leave, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. And He, when He comes, will convict the world regarding sin, and righteousness, and judgment: regarding sin, because they do not believe in Me; and regarding righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you no longer are going to see Me; and regarding judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.” (John 16 1-11 NASB)

God is among us by His Holy Spirit dwelling in those who believe in Jesus. How amazing is that! The Spirit of God proclaims what is true about Jesus, and His disciples did the same. They testified to the truth and declared God’s judgement to those who did not believe His Son. That has never been a popular thing to do. Yet, Christ’s disciples we not afraid to tell the world, “Only repentance and faith in Jesus will save you.” So, you can see why they suffered. They were preaching to a world condemned by their disbelief.

Nothing has changed except truth is often avoided as the best way to keep employment, family, friends or even your head. Time to set priorities and trust our Helper in all of our situations. The people and the circumstances, in and of our life, are God’s will for us in Christ Jesus. Be brave. (1 Thessalonians 5: 18)
