Spirit of truth continued
“I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them at the present time. But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take from Mine and will disclose it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine; this is why I said that He takes from Mine and will disclose it to you.” (John16:12-15 NASB)
“The present time” for us is different. His disciples were soon to have their hearts torn in grief. They loved Him. We did not grieve for Christ death, only for our own. We received Christ’s salvation holding nothing in our hands except our sin sickened heart. Thank God for His Spirit when we received His Son, the disciples had to wait until the Day of Pentecost. Oh! What a Spirit of power there was on that day. “The present time” is different. We seem to have much to learn.
The Holy Spirit glorifies Jesus. In the church, pay attention to who or what gets the glory. The Spirit of truth guides us and does a wonderful job when we are not jumping out ahead. Many false doctrines are the fruit of man’s independence. So, keep a humble heart and trust the Holy Spirit to let you know what is true. “My sheep listen to My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give them eternal life, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.” (John 10:27-28 NASB)
