And the sick
“When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him. When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah. (53:4) “He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.” (Matthew 8:14-17)
According to Matthew, Jesus fulfilled this prophecy. Do you suppose our world would have fewer possessed and sick people if Isaiah’s prophecy was still active? Or maybe it does, and we suffer lack of discernment when seeing the homeless in all states of disarray. Reliving themselves on city streets, drugged and lying in the gutter. They are the madmen and women on Main Street U.S.A. We would bring them to Jesus if He was still here. He would drive out the spirits with just a word.
If only we could bring them to Jesus. Well, we can, and some do, by calling these same streets God’s Mission field. They bring His love, and His word to the lost. May God give them power in these last days. Or is it too late? Was God’s Son’s rejection final and complete? Dear God, their numbers are swelling in these latter days. Surely some will be saved.
