Stuck on step A?
Repent gets more than its share of Biblical discussion. Let’s try to make it simple and move on to step B.
“About Face!” When we turn to God for forgiveness that is saving faith that Jesus, the Son of God is. Good job! Wasn’t that easy? When we turned to God, Jesus Saved us. We may have had our doubts, but we believe in Him. Still saved! Repentance: The Father leads us to repentance, and we turn away or into Christ’s light. The cover of darkness or the practice of truth. (John 3:16-21)
Apostle Paul proclaimed repentance to both Jew and Gentile.
“but continually proclaimed to those in Damascus first, and in Jerusalem, and then all the region of Judea, and even to the Gentiles, that they are to repent and turn to God, performing deeds consistent with repentance. and believe the Gospel” (Acts 26:20 NASB) “Deeds consistent” is similar to what John the Baptist told the Pharisees and Sadducees, “produce fruit consistent with repentance” (Matthew 3:8) Simply normal results of heartfelt repentance. Ready for step B? After repentance and faith in Jesus comes confession.
The Message
“This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous, so that He will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.” (1 John 1:5-10)
Step B
Sin, brothers and sisters, is still an issue that must be delt with. Jesus’ blood will cleanse all who belong to Him from all unrighteousness, but we have a part to play. To have repented, is to now be in His light, and able to see our unrighteousness. Confess to Him and believe the one who said, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
Because the Lord anointed me
To bring good news to the humble.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
To proclaim release to captives
And freedom to prisoners.” (Isaiah 61:1 NASB)
