Heavy Flowery Air

The sweet scents experienced in a tropical garden.

That’s the closest I can come to describing what God the Father experienced when His Son gave Himself up for us.

“Therefore, be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.” (Ephesians 5:1-2 NASB)

Jesus’ sacrifice was for the sake of love. Love for His Father and for those who would be His Father’s children. Sacrificial love is the heavy fragrance surrounding the throne of God who is love. Question to ask ourselves, “How do we smell to God?” Seriously, is our love sacrificial? Unless we live as a hermit, far away from civilization, our world is full of people needing that kind of love. God’s love.

So, let’s go “2023” and imitate the love of our Lord. Let’s flood the heavenlies with sweet-smelling aromas that arise from our agape love, the fragrance of Christ in us, the hope of glory. Amen.
