From James’ point of view.
The arguments started long ago. “Faith without works is dead.” Such a dreadful thought to those who have reason to take it personally. James is explaining the workings of God’s kingdom as taught by Christ’s Spirit in him. So, I’m not arguing about “faith and works”. I believed James, and God changed my life.
The seed is the word of God. There is only one question, “Are we good soil? If we have any doubts, we need to pray that heaven’s Gardener does some more tilling. So that we keep His seed in our heart, no matter the truth expressed or our trials and temptations. Has God’s word sprouted as faith in His grace? Then there is no reason to fear God’s perfect law.
James is telling us how to be blessed in our works.
“But one who has looked intently at the perfect law, the law of freedom, and has continued in it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an active doer, this person will be blessed in what he does.” (James 1:25 NASB)
Today I moved two fruit trees further away from our septic train field. They now crowd together in a small area. If God keeps me here, in time I will have a bonsai orchard. Two different cherry trees, two Asian pears, one yellow plumb, two different fig trees, one mulberry tree, one Huckelberry bush and room for one more something. Third growing season coming for most, second for some others. Layer upon layer of woodchips retain the moisture and break down as nutrients supplementing the chicken droppings (left on a daily basis) guarantees heavy pruning each year. I am blessed and someday, God willing, I will be sharing fruit with our neighbors.
