Guard them!
“Peace be to the brothers and sisters, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ with incorruptible love.” (Ephesians 6:23-24 NASB)
Peace and love with faith. Can you ask for anything greater? That is the good news of the kingdom. Peace with God. Death no longer feared. But there’s much more than that when we have peace with God. A chance to grow, encouraged by Father’s love. Peace maintained through repentance and faith.
Someday our eyes will behold Jesus’ glory. We will be face to face. Until then, we must be vigilant to guard our love for our Father and our Lord. “Incorruptible love.” Something that was sadly missing when Jesus sent His message to the church of Ephesus.
Ephesians did a lot of spiritual stuff, like hating evil and exposing false apostles. “But I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Therefore, remember from where you have fallen, and repent, and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you, and I will remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.” (Revelation 2:4-5 NASB)
This local body of believers knew their stuff. They were taught by the apostle Paul. And now Jesus was no longer their first love, THEIR REASON FOR BEING. Their Savior called them to repent. Did they? Well, the church of Ephesus lies in ruins, a reminder for us to guard the motives of our heart. God bless.
