We know about the Last Supper Jesus shared on the night Judas left to betray Him. Come daylight Peter denied Him. We know the events that followed, but do we know Jesus’ after-dinner words to His disciples? Maybe bits and pieces, verses here and there. Takes my breath away to know this Jesus speaks today to those who would hear Him.
This evening I will be celebrating my birthday dinner with my wife, Vicki and my sons and daughters and a grandson. I was asked to give some of my words at dinner. That got me to thinking what I might say. All I have is my story which is about Jesus. How do I sum-up all He has become to me? What lessons learned should be told? I wish I could pass out keys to the kingdom, like Jesus gave to Peter. Truth that is life. I will trust the Lord for what comes out of my mouth and tell them what I know about being obedient to our Lord’s new commandment.
“I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all people will know that you are My disciples: if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35 NASB)
“Just as I have loved you.” Jesus sets high standards, and I can tell that there are many of you who reach to excel. We get to be Christ’s disciples. How amazing is that!!!
