For His Name’s Sake

A Psalm of David.

“The Lord is my shepherd, I will not be in need. He lets me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For the sake of His name.” (Psalm23:1-3 NASB)

It good, from time to time, to jump for joy knowing Christians are saved by the same God as David. We forget Who is leading our lives. Circumstances test our faith in God’s will until we remember Who willed the circumstances. His will restores what He intended His children to become. Jesus reminds us to be joyful, we are on the right path. Why? “For the sake of His name.”

“I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” (Psalm 2:9) [He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh, he has this name written:

king of kings and lord of lords.” (Revelation 19:11-16 NASB)

His name is the Word of God, king of kings and lord of lords who Shepards us on a righteous path. He even has a secret name nobody knows. Jesus is not confused when the Gentiles call Him by different names. There are about 6,500 languages spoken in the tribes and nations (God started it.) Vietnamese/Chúa Giêsu, Somali/Ciise, Mongolian/Ecyc, Italian/Gesù, Corsican/Ghjesù, Hebrew/ישוע, Arabic/يسوع to name but a few of the words the Shephard hears when we cry out or praise Him. Grace responds to our heart, it’s a spiritual thing, language does not matter.
