The disciples heard God’s voice in the person of His Son. They did not know then what we know now, but they got up and followed. Have you heard?
“As He passed by, He saw Levi (Matthew) the son of Alphaeus sitting in the tax office, and He said to him, ‘Follow Me! ‘ And he got up and followed Him.” (Mark 2:14 NASB, Matthew 9:19, Luke 5:27)“And He said to them, ‘Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of people.'” (Matthew 4:19 NASB, Mark 1:17)
That was then, this is now, God chose us to be priests, His holy possession with a job to do. A job that has everything to do with people being saved through hearing and seeing the acts of God. Hearing and seeing through the words and actions of priests who would come after Him.
“Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.'” (Matthew 16:24 NASB) “And the one who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.” (Matthew 10:38 NASB, Luke 9:23) “If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.” (John 12:26 NASB)
God is the One calling, it is up to us to follow His word. I know for a fact He is patient and kind and longsuffering until we do. We are loved.
“Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the Light of the world; the one who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.'” (John 8:12 NASB) “My sheep listen to My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;” (John 10:27 NASB) “Jesus answered and said to him, ‘If anyone loves Me, he will follow My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our dwelling with him.'” (John 14:23 NASB)
