God has made a way for me to preach the truth to my community. Over 70 homes make up our wooded neighborhood and the time has come for road maintenance so, I’m gathering volunteers. We met this morning and went to work. When I had to leave, I asked a neighbor if he wanted to come back the next morning to hear a verse or too, a little sermon. This neighbor has a few believers who witness to him, and I was pleasantly surprised when he said yes. Now I’m inviting all of my neighbors to meet at the end of our road. Pray they come and my voice is heard over the roar of the river.
“Now when Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, ‘Who do people say that the Son of Man is?’ And they said, ‘Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah, or one of the other prophets.” He said to them, ‘But who do you yourselves say that I am?’ Simon Peter answered, “You are the (Messiah) Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus said to him, ‘Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter (Petros, a stone), and upon this rock (petra, massive rock formation; bedrock) I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.” (Matthew 16:13;18 NASB)
If the God of creation has revealed who Jesus is to you, then you’re a stone in the church Jesus is building! If that’s your faith, the gates of Hell will not overpower what Jesus is doing in you. Thank God! “Oh,” we will get tripped up from time to time, and get involved in ways we shouldn’t, but Jesus doesn’t stop building His church. Peter is a stone in this spiritual building called a church. And God, revealing His Son to you, is the mountain Jesus is building upon.
