The Light of Life

Jesus came to save, not judge.

“Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the Light of life.” (John 8:12)

God is placing His holy laws within our being, and writing His word upon our hearts. (Jeremiah 31:31-34) He does this through His Spirit as we come into the Light of Christ, the Word of God. As it was in the beginning, God still creates through His word.

When we believe we are no longer blind, but unbelief walks in darkness. Hear these words of Paul. “Even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ who is the image of God.” (2 Corinthians 4:3-4) We have the “Light of life.”

Why us?

Why are we able to see? Surly our minds were just as blinded by “the god of this world.” We were dead in sin! “…….God is not One to show partiality, but in every nation the one who fears Him and does what is right is welcome to Him.” (Acts 34:35)

“For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (John 3:17-18)

“This is the judgement, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.” (John 3:19-20) They prefer their evil ways. The Light of Christ is hated and rejected.

“But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be shown to have been wrought in God.” (John 3 :21) We were welcome because we “feared God” and desired to “practice the truth.” The Scriptures tell us that God is “not wishing for any to perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9) Why us? We repented. They would not.

Now it’s our turn.

While Jesus was in the world, He was the Light of the world. (John 9:5) We are now the light of the world. (Matthew 5:14) Light that is hated by Satan and those he has blinded. God has made it possible for us to stand against His enemies and reminds us that, “The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.” (Romans 13:12)

Father, others will argue about Your sovereign choice and the responsibilities of man. Jesus revealed You to us. We know that Your love determined the choices you have made, and  Your children should make their decisions the same way. “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no wrong as it fulfills your holy law. (Romans 13:9-10) In this dark and evil world express Your Light and Love in us, so that others may “come to repentance.” To perish is a terrible thing.  Because of Jesus, we ask in His name and according to Your will.

Be of good cheer, “The night is almost gone, and the day is near.”
