God’s word will not return to Him void.
“To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: The Amen, the faithful and true witness, the Beginning of the creation of God, says this:” (Revelation 3:14)
The apostle John dictated a message to be given to the one who served Christ’s church in Laodicea. It was meant for those who tasted the grace of God. The Amen, the “So Be It” was speaking. A witness beyond reproach was telling them how it will be. He was there at creation and knows the condition of all men.
“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth.” (Vs. 15-16) He knows our deeds, those that are evil and those born of our faith. Those who had heard the message of salvation were superficially responding to God’s amazing grace. (Romans 6:1-15) These Christians lacked commitment and a sense of urgency, other things were more important.
“Because you say, ‘I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,’ and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked,” (Vs.17) Their flesh was satisfied, but they were ignorant to their spiritual condition.
“I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see.” (Vs. 18) There is a cost. We must be willing to give up everything to the Refiner’s fire. (Luke 14:25-35) The end result is to become like Jesus, truly clothed in His righteousness and able to see Him as He is. (1 John 3:2), “the firstborn among many brethren.” (Romans 8:29)
“Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent. (Vs.19) Jesus sent this harsh warning to His church in Laodicea because of His love for them. His love and words are just as true for those who claim His name today.
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.” (Vs. 20) The Lord God is asking to be received and promising that He will enter the one who opens their life to Him. Together they will feast on the food sent down from heaven, the Word of God.
“He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.” (Vs.21) Those who repent and overcome the self-centered temptations of this age will reign with Christ in the age to come. (Revelation 20:6; 22:5)
Father, I know your throne of judgement is not the place for me to sit. I cannot see into the heart of another. But, with just two years on Facebook and one on WordPress I am concerned. Out of the mouth come the issues of the heart. (Matthew 12:34; 15:18) Lord Jesus, I pray to the Father in Your name asking that Your words “to the churches”are heard by all my friends, readers and family on social media with the conviction of Your Holy Spirit. Thank you.
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” (Vs.21)
